Opening today in the Visual Arts Center (VAC) Gallery is a show of works created by faculty from the MSU College of Architecture, Art and Design.

Visitors to the gallery will see the diverse styles of the artists that include samples of painting, sculpture, photography, furniture design, graphic design, fiber art and printmaking. The works range from representational images depicting figures and portraits to explorations of abstract forms, colors, text and shapes.

Many students in the Department of Art look forward to the faculty exhibit, which typically occurs every other year, as it allows them to see the work and research of their professors.

The 19 faculty and staff artists represented are Chad Anderson, Peter Bain, Alex Bostic, Adrienne Callander, Neil Callendar, Brent Funderburk, Marita Gootee, Rowan Haug, Jeffery Haupt, Jude Landry, Dominic Lippillo, Robert Long, Gregory Martin, Tim McCourt, Soon Ee Ngoh, Jamie Mixon, Linda Sekinger, Jake Weigel and Jim West.

Many of the pieces in the show have won awards or have been part of juried exhibitions. For example, Jamie Mixon’s concert poster for Pink created for the Verizon Arena won an Award of Excellence from the professional creative journal Communication Arts; Jude Landry’s design of The United States of America for a T-shirt print also received recognition from Communication Arts and is represented in the gallery show as a wood cut; Marita Gootee’s “DollarTree Rex,” a cyanotype photogram of a toy purchased from a DollarTree store, recently exhibited at Lightbox Photographic Gallery in Astoria, Ore.

There will be a reception for the show at the VAC Gallery on Thurs., Feb. 20 from 5 –7 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public.

The Visual Arts Center Gallery is located at 808 University Drive. Hours of operation: Tuesday–Friday, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., and Saturday 2 – 4p.m. For more information please call 662-325-2970.
