Students in the upper level ceramic art classes with Professor Robert Long recently attended the 29th annual Alabama Clay Conference.

The conference, held in Birmingham, was held February 20-23 at the Boutwell Auditorium next to the Birmingham Museum of Art.

Nationally and internationally recognized presenters at the conference this year were Daphne Roehr Hatcher and Gary Hatcher from Mineola, Texas; Peter Beasecker from Syracuse, N.Y.; and Bonnie Seeman from Boca Raton, Fla.

Students were treated to demonstrations on process and technique and heard personal stories on life as an artist and the journey along the way.

Included in the activities was an exhibition opening of artwork by the presenters hosted by and located at the Alabama Power Archives Museum, a visit to the Birmingham Museum of Art and a demonstration from various ceramic art vendors located at the rear of the auditorium.

Mississippi State University again had the largest student attendance at the conference and came home excited to get into the studio and get to work!
