In July 2013 Brent Funderburk, professor and thesis coordinator in the Department of Art, was asked to join a team of staff members, art and landscape consultants to nurture the development of programs at the Santa Fe Botanical Garden in New Mexico, which opened in July.

Funderburk worked with Clayton Bass, CEO; Linda Milbourn, managing director; W. Gary Smith, landscape architect; and Larry Littlebird, leader, at the Hamaatsa indigenous learning center near Albuquerque for a workshop and discussion affecting the newly established Garden on Museum Hill in Sante Fe, the Leonora Curtin Wetland Preserve and the Ortiz Mountains Educational Preserve.
