Robert Long, professor and ceramics emphasis coordinator in the Department of Art, is currently featured in the Artist Spotlight at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art‘s Center for Southern Craft and Design and Museum Store.

From the Spotlight:
Robert Long has been head of the ceramic arts program in the Department of Art at Mississippi State University since 1990.  He studied at the University of California in Sacramento receiving a BA in Art before going on to earn an MFA in Ceramics at Clemson University.

His work has been featured in numerous one-person and group exhibitions throughout the U.S. and abroad including more recently the “Third International Small Teapot Exhibition” at Saddleback College in Mission Viejo, Calif.; “100 Teapots III” at the Baltimore Clayworks in Baltimore, Md.; the “National Juried/Invitational Cup Show” at the Isadore Gallery in Lancaster, Penn.; “It’s Only Clay” national juried ceramics exhibition at the Bemidji Art Center in Bemidji, Minn.; the “Wichita National All Media Craft Exhibition” at The Wichita Center for the Arts in Wichita, Kan.;  the Lillstreet International, “Drink:Functional Forms for Every Libation” at the Lillstreet Art Center in Chicago. Ill., and in 2007 a solo exhibition at the Sekitei Gallery in Hiroshima, Japan.

Articles about his work have appeared in Ceramics Monthly, in the Mississippi State Magazine Alumnus and also the American Ceramic Society publication “Wood-Firings; Journeys and Techniques” which features one of Long’s pieces on the cover.  More recently his work was included in the Lark Books publications “500 Plates, Platters and Chargers,” which features a piece by Long titled ”Platter with Cut Rim” and “500 Teapots: volume 2,” which features a piece by Long entitled “Oil Can Teapot.”
