Mike Stephens, nationally recognized for his powerful and beautifully crafted large-scaled woodcut prints, visited campus on Oct. 29.

The print artists who teaches at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, Texas, held a workshop for students in the Department of Art.

During the workshop, Stephens demonstrated his woodcut techniques while carving on an 18” X 24” demo block he created specifically for the event. He also brought a number of large woodcut prints for viewing during the workshop – works that augmented those displayed in the McComas exhibition.

“Stephens spoke about each of the prints and shared insights with the workshop participants concerning his personal process of creating imagery, discussed the content of the work itself and shared some of his own ‘art’ experiences (life lessons) and philosophy,” said Linda Seckinger, professor and printmaking emphasis coordinator.

He also hosted a gallery talk of his work that has been on display since Aug. 26:
