For the first two weeks of class, fourth-year architecture, interior design and building construction science students collaborated in teams for the third annual Brasfield & Gorrie Student Design Competition. The Birmingham-based construction firm, Brasfield & Gorrie General Contractors, is contributing $5,000 each year through 2016 to support an interdisciplinary student design competition in the College of Architecture, Art and Design. Each year, professors from each discipline team up to create a new project for the competition. This year, students were challenged to transform the 1800 square-foot area beneath the concrete bleachers on the west side of Mississippi State University’s McCarthy Gym from an interior exit into an interior (conditioned) main entrance.
