Convocation for the Interior Design program was held on Sept. 7.

Associate Dean David Lewis, PhD, got things started by sharing some impressive facts with students.  Dr. Lewis said the College of Architecture, Art, and Design received 151 peer-reviewed regional and national awards, which averages to about one in five students.  Lewis said students in the Interior Design program received 26 of those awards and beat the average even for the College.

The associate dean also discussed the positive results of a national survey about student experience and encouraged students to get involved in honor societies, lectures, exhibits and study abroad.

Beth Miller, the director of the Interior Design program, then told students how excited she is about the fact that the first certified designers in the state will receive their certificates in the next few weeks – a project she said has been in the works for almost ten years.

Miller also discussed some recent achievements by students and faculty before asking Robin Carrol, a professor and chair of the scholarship committee, to announce this year’s recipients.

The event ended with presentations from seniors about their summer internships.
