Architecture Field Trip Week

Field trips are an important component of education for students in the College of Architecture, Art and Design. Architecture students in first through fourth-year will travel with their studio this week to various destinations across the country.

BARNworks is an abridged collection of student work from the Mississippi State University School of Architecture. BARNworks includes works from all five studio years, as well as the college's research centers.

The article, titled "Service Learning and Social Justice in Architecture Education: Teaching Students to Design for the 'Other'," is currently available in the journal's online bookstore, with hardcopies available for future purchase.

Baleigh A. Hull, a senior architecture major, won first in the Arts and Humanities category of the 2019 Mississippi State Summer Undergraduate Research Symposium. She was advised by Silvina Lopez Barrera, assistant professor in the School of Architecture.

Design Discovery 2019: Kit of Parts
You will be given a “kit of parts," that is, a set of pieces you can work with and asked to make a model that has both a defined “enclosed” or private space(s) and a defined “open” or more public space(s). These models are abstract; the solid “pieces” are there only to define the space between them. There is no numeric scale to this project; let the relationship between the open and enclosed spaces show scale.
