The Mississippi State art department’s 44th Student Juried Exhibition opens Thursday [March 31] at the university’s McComas Hall Art Gallery.

Free to all, the ground-floor exhibition through April 8 features 79 works selected from nearly 350 fine art, graphic design and photography creations submitted for consideration.

A public reception for the exhibitors will be held 5-6 p.m. on March 31 in the same location. Light refreshments will be provided.

Best in Show and honorable mention prizes will be presented in the fine art, graphic design and photography categories. Many of the students’ works will be available for purchase.

Fine art, graphic design and photography judges for this semester’s exhibition were, respectively, Ryan Cobourn, a New York painter, designer and photographer; James Louis Walker, a multidisciplinary graphic designer and educator in Texas; and Laura Larson, an Ohio-based photographer.

MSU’s art department is part of the College of Architecture, Art and Design. The McComas art gallery is among several departmental venues regularly featuring traveling exhibits, student shows, and group and solo exhibitions by professional artists.

Special gallery hours for the exhibition in McComas Hall are 1-5 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday, as well as by appointment.
