Junior Mississippi State University art major Sara C. "SC" Hailey participated in the Artgroove gallery show in New York City last month. An artist the Madison native follows on social media often promoted the Artgroove event, and Hailey randomly decided to submit her drawings.

"The next time Artgroove posted on social media, I sent in some of my drawings on a whim to see what would happen," she said. "They responded later that day that I had been accepted!"

The drawings submitted were created by Hailey around a year and a half ago, inspired heavily by the reflective state she was in during that time.

"I wanted the drawings to offer a sense of calm softness, like a quiet morning when you have time to reflect on your life so far and enjoy your coffee in the sunshine," said Hailey.

Hailey transferred to MSU this fall, and she explained that she has already learned a lot from the art department and her professors. Her time at MSU and in the art department has boosted her confidence and encouraged her to apply to the Artgroove show in the first place, she explained.

"This was the first time my art has been in a show for the public to view that wasn't associated with school, so it felt like a big step toward the future of my career," said Hailey.
