My work shows my appreciation and passion for all the beautiful things in our natural world. I throw cups on the wheel and then use the surface as a canvas to sculpt, carve, and shape the forms and textures that I find appealing in nature like the color and form of flowers, trees, bugs, and other living organisms. I use underglazes to transfer images onto the surface and celadon glazes to effectively display the depth in the carving and sculpture. The mediums and processes I use are important to my work because they are what enables me to create the look and feel of the things I am emulating from nature. I am interested in the relationship between the earthly medium of clay that can be transformed into something beautiful and functional. Plants and creatures are beautiful, but they serve a purpose in the world. Because the beauty found in nature is the biggest inspiration to my work, I wanted this body of work to display the magnificence of our environment and all of the things in it.
