Elephant in the Room

My work focuses on world religions and how the roots of them tend to be the same. Each religion teaches us how to be better people and shows us how we are supposed to treat each other. At the end of the day we are all teaching the same things, but just telling different stories to portray them. So I have taken differing archetypes and shown them as one single figure to represent the similarities between the religions. I created the work by taking pictures of models using colored lights, then used them as a reference for my paintings. Starting with the backgrounds, all the way to the figures themselves I used colors, and symbols that represent different aspects of the gods I am trying to portray. Using oil paints on either wood I tried to show how many different religions can be depicted by one image. In doing this I hope to show others how similar we are and that all of our intolerance is completely uncalled for.
