Gamut: A Spectrum of Emotions
Thesis Statement
My thesis is based on escapism and is a series of digital illustrations of creatures and the places they live and inhabit. My work is based on fantasy worlds that I like to go to when life gets too stressful. Titled Gamut: A Spectrum of Emotions, I address personal feelings across the emotional spectrum like fear, hope, and calm. Gamut invokes the same feelings that one would feel when reading an adventure book or playing a game based in a magical fantasy land. I want them to see places the creature live in relation to the other creatures, adding to the world building aspect. There are some narrative elements, but the series does not tell a narrative story, the creatures all live in the same world so some may interact just as creatures in our world do. However, there is no overarching story to be told, everyone can look at however many or however few and not miss out on a story. I draw inspiration from Dungeons and Dragons, the Monster Hunter series, Pokémon, the Destiny series, League of Legends, Percy Jackson, Harry Potter, and various anime and digital artists. These things are very important to me because unlike the rest of my young life, these left me with a calm feeling instead of feeling hopeless and full of dread.
