Mallow and the String of Fate
Thesis Statement
As an illustrator, my works feature a variety of topics told through a narrative lens. Through the use of acrylic paints and chalk pastels layered on roofing paper, my thesis is a story told from two perspectives: that of the protagonist (told from left to center), and the antagonist (told from right to center).
Much of the imagery used is elemental in nature, such as water, fire, and thorn motifs. A clash of elements helps to set a mood and show that there are two sides to this story. The thorns and red star imagery represent loss and lashing out. By the time the opposing forces meet in the middle, the antagonist is triumphant, but the small figure at the bottom (Mallow) hints at an unfinished story.
