Shuk Han Lui
Artist Statement and Bio:
"I work predominantly in mixed-media paintings, drawings, and artist's books. My studio practice takes a meditative focus to explore relationships between drawing, piano, and Cantonese. Born and raised in Hong Kong, I listened to a variety of music and languages; I value freedom and creativity. My research interests focus on incorporating as many voices and ways of mark-making as possible to form a body of work.
As a practicing artist, I earned my MFA in Drawing and Painting from the Lamar Dodd School of Art at the University of Georgia. I received several research grants and fellowships, including the Don Bachardy Fellowship, the Wilson Center Graduate Research Award, and the Looney Foundation Graduate Fellowship. Additionally, I was an artist-in-residence at the Royal Drawing School in the UK, and the KHN Center for the Arts, and the Chapman Cultural Center in the US."
